At last October's Fast Casual Executive Summit in Miami, Tom Ryan, founder of Smashburger, discussed why old brands are struggling. According to Ryan, "Modern brands have to perpetually study and understand, what it does it take to be relevant for people in and around the age of 32?".

Numerous studies including this one from SYSCO show that Millennials "... expect restaurants to offer Wi-Fi and be present on food-focused sites like Yelp and OpenTable." With Millennials (currently aged 19 to 35) and their children and younger siblings Gen-Z driving family dining decision-making, WiFi has become a cost of doing business.
